Section Two

Sense Adjectives

Words we use to describe what we see, hear, smell, taste, and feel. كلمات نستخدمها لوصف ما نراه ونسمعه ونشمّه ونتذوّقه ونحسّ به.

Sense words come in pairs of opposites

كلمات الحواس تأتي في أزواج متضادة

Each pair has a positive word and an opposite. Learning them together makes them easy to remember.

👁️ SIGHT: bright (مُضيء) ↔ dark (مظلم) · big (كبير) ↔ small (صغير) · beautiful (جميل) ↔ ugly (قبيح) البصر: مضيء، مظلم، كبير، صغير، جميل، قبيح

👂 HEARING: loud (مرتفع) ↔ quiet (هادئ) · noisy (صاخب) ↔ silent (صامت) السمع: مرتفع، هادئ، صاخب، صامت

👃 SMELL: nice / sweet smell (رائحة جميلة) ↔ bad / horrible smell (رائحة كريهة) الشمّ: رائحة جميلة، رائحة كريهة

👅 TASTE: sweet (حلو) ↔ sour (حامض) · salty (مالح) ↔ bitter (مرّ) · delicious (لذيذ) التذوّق: حلو، حامض، مالح، مرّ، لذيذ

✋ TOUCH: soft (ناعم) ↔ hard (صلب) · smooth (أملس) ↔ rough (خشن) · hot (ساخن) ↔ cold (بارد) اللمس: ناعم، صلب، أملس، خشن، ساخن، بارد

Section Three

Sense Verb + Adjective

Use these verbs with describing words to talk about how something seems. نستخدم هذه الأفعال مع الصفات لنصف كيف يبدو الشيء.

After the verbs look · sound · smell · taste · feel, we put a describing word (adjective).

✅ The cake tastes delicious. (الكعكة طعمها لذيذ.) بعد الفعل نضع صفة، وليس اسمًا.

✅ The music sounds nice. (صوت الموسيقى جميل.)

✅ The flower smells sweet. (الزهرة رائحتها حلوة.)

✅ The kitten feels soft. (الهرّة ملمسها ناعم.)

✅ The sky looks blue. (السماء تبدو زرقاء.)

Section Four

Sense Verb + like

Use "like" to compare something to another thing (a noun). نستخدم "like" لمقارنة الشيء بشيء آخر (اسم).

Put like after the sense verb when you compare to a noun (a thing).

✅ This juice tastes like orange. (هذا العصير طعمه مثل البرتقال.) نستخدم like + اسم.

✅ The drum sounds like thunder. (الطبل صوته مثل الرعد.)

✅ It smells like chocolate! (الرائحة مثل الشوكولاتة!)

✅ The pillow feels like a cloud. (الوسادة ملمسها مثل السحابة.)

✅ The cloud looks like a rabbit. (السحابة تبدو مثل الأرنب.)

Remember · تذكّر: Use like with nouns. Use no "like" with adjectives.

❌ The cake tastes like sweet. ✅ The cake tastes sweet. (adjective)

❌ The cake tastes chocolate. ✅ The cake tastes like chocolate. (noun)

Last Friday, Salma went to the beach with her family. The sun was very bright, and she could see the blue sea. She could hear the soft sound of the waves. The waves sounded quiet and peaceful.

Salma's mum opened a bag of food. The food smelled delicious! It smelled like fresh bread and cheese. Salma was very hungry. She ate a sandwich. It tasted sweet and salty.

After lunch, Salma walked on the sand. The sand felt warm on her feet. Then she touched the water. The water felt cold! She used all her senses and had a wonderful day at the beach.
